This year, Bastille Day was celebrated Sunday July 12th in different areas from New York City. Obviously the place to be is in Brooklyn, on Smith street, where they close the streets on a few blocks to fill them with sand for the International Petanque Tournament!
Add a lot of french people, Ricard drinks, merguez sandwiches, strawberry tarts, sun, many degrees, music and friends and you get an unforgettable Sunday afternoon !

On Memorial Day, I had a chance to finally get out of New York city, yes after more than a year, it was time! I followed my friends out of the state, took the bus at 7 in the morning in Chinatown NY and arrived one hour and a half later in Chinatown Philadelphia.
We went there without any expectations. The idea was just a day off somewhere else.
We skipped the historical district, we just had a look at the Liberty Bell, passed a few Memorial Day ceremonies, then got lost in the downtown area, had a HUGE and excellent Philly Cheesesteak, tried the subway, just for fun, and finished our trip with the famous stairs you can see in the movie Rocky.
I’m not going into details, here’s a slideshow with things that inspired me that day.

At least! (i’m back)… my excuse?
I was looking for sweet popcorn… does that count? Well it seems easy….actually you can find salty popcorn, popcorn with butter, or garlic popcorn, pizza popcorn, hamburger popcorn.. and worse, but no sweet delightful popcorn… till one day I found this Cracker Jack, cheap, perfect size, and sweeeet Caramel taste.
Why do they not sell these sweet treats in theaters? Last time I harassed the popcorn seller at the counter to get sugar in my portion, he was wondering where people who eat sugary pops could come from… “May I suggest you to get regular (salty) popcorn and coke, so it will become sweet in your mouth.”. …!!!… I gave up.
I’m going to watch the new James Bond tonight… but before that be sure I will get my Cracker Jack!
Sometimes I do things I would never do in France:
It’s called the $6.40 Cheese Syndrome. (but it’s “Genuine” !)
When I see a little piece of France, I just need to have it… especially in the cheese section.
Ok, here is the thing…
After a real good american burger that I enjoyed in an excellent restaurant in Soho - where i’m used to go with my co-workers… we got this check:

Apparently nothing wrong.
The price matches what we ordered… but just under the amount… a nice “Service is not included”.
We are in Soho with a lot of tourists, so there are used to all these european people who never leave a tip… so nothing offending.
But this is the first time that I got a double arrowed-underlined-hearted drawn bill.
This is what happens when two people are speaking french in a restaurant.
Actually two french people… But two french Brooklynites !
Anyway, the burger was excellent, and with such a nice “Thank You”, I will have to go back!
See you soon at F******’ * !

This is where I live in Brooklyn.

Here am I !
