Featured on NO DEJA

NO DEJA VU is a travel blog focused on discovering cities from an “anti-touristic” perspective… for travelers on the quest for inspiration.

I had the chance to meet Véronique working as a web-strategist for Mint Birdy and Karl-Frédéric artistic director at Ekorce, on a 10 day trip to New York City. Both from Montréal, QC, they decided to create a travel guide/blog oriented to the artisitc aspect of the cities. Their goal is to seek out the latest and greatest design objects, various oddities and contemporary urban culture and share their finds with us.

New York is their first stage and they will cross the seas and land in Helsinki – Stockholm – Copenhagen – Paris to bring you the Best and the Unexpected.

And because Brooklyn is the Best of New York, it’s at Loki Lounge on 5th avenue and 2nd street that we met. Chatting about the great neighborhoods, my vision and experience of the borough, nice places they had to visit before they leave, etc.

I want to thank them again for the great time we spent together and the nice article featured on their blog.

From Park Slope to Cobble Hill

The zone between 5th avenue (park slope) and Smith street (cobble hill) was kind of blurry for me. What could possibly be on the few blocks separating the two great areas. Union street was chosen to be the link and it all starts on 4th avenue, already a huge contrast with the 5th as there’s a 5-way road + subway lines.

Imagine what could be on the 3rd… but forget about the prejudices, passed that car-crowded line there are even no traffic lights (the quota was over passed on the 4th).

Following are blocks full of red brick industrial walls, rusty doors and busy taking pictures of these inspiring faded colors I lost track of the avenues numbers till I realized I was about to cross a bridge. A bridge?! Crossing the Gowanus Canal …something I do everyday on the F line between ’4 avenue’ and ‘smith street’ without knowing it. Here I stand, on this metallic, bold green structure, shooting rusty pipes and cracking paint, it was really cold that day. I wish I had taken more pictures. The next block the familiar brownstone houses are back… already, sigh, here’s Cobble Hill. I wished there would be more to explore. I will have to attempt the same travel on another street to link these two areas, I’m sure there’s a lot to see!

Here’s the link to the gallery of that trip.

Am I late?

December 25th, to feel the Christmas Spirit I went to Dyker Heights – Brooklyn. It is the place to go if you need to get a quick Christmas shot [yeah like a vodka shot... tasting gingerbread, orange and chocolate].

Music, snowmen, penguins, reindeers, santas (fake ones of course), people and LIGHTS (still lights, blinking lights, color changing lights, music playing lights, animated lights) LIGHTS – LIGHTS – LIGHTS !!! Everything was there! Even my camera! Check the crazyness of these people -  I loved it!

Belgian Waffle at Bryant Park

Want to taste it?

Go to The Christmas market at Bryant Park and look for Augustin’s Waffle stand.

This Banana-Caramel-Cinnamon waffle was the “Waffle of the day” at only 4 dollars!

American Birthday!

Last week I celebrated my first American birthday… And I got the traditional cupcakes and a whole strawberry cheesecake, just for meeeeeeee [I'm full - does anyone want a slice?]

Thank you for all these treats!

Sweet! Please.

At least! (i’m back)… my excuse?

I was looking for sweet popcorn… does that count? Well it seems easy….actually you can find salty popcorn, popcorn with butter, or garlic popcorn, pizza popcorn, hamburger popcorn.. and worse, but no sweet delightful popcorn… till one day I found this Cracker Jack, cheap, perfect size, and sweeeet Caramel taste.

Why do they not sell these sweet treats in theaters? Last time I harassed the popcorn seller at the counter to get sugar in my portion, he was wondering where people who eat sugary pops could come from… “May I suggest you to get regular (salty) popcorn and coke, so it will become sweet in your mouth.”. …!!!… I gave up.

I’m going to watch the new James Bond tonight… but before that be sure I will get my Cracker Jack!
